What kind of mineral fertilizers can we find?
The organic nutrients can be liquid fertilizers, solid fertilizer powders, granules or sticks. The granues and the sticks we put at the roots of the plant and they have a longer effect, dissolving slowly in the ground when watering the plant. There are special nutrients that are sprayedd directly on the leaves of the plant. Of course, there are many variations of the different fertilizer types, so we can use what suits us better.

Which is the adequate fertilizer for my plant?
Sometimes it is enaugh to read the product label, which tells us what is the fertilizer for and we can use it right away. For example there are nutrients developed particulary for orchids or citric plants, but we can find universal ones, too.
If we can not figure out what is the product for or we want to understand the processes a little better, we have to pay attention to the three basic ingredients: nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). The nitrogen helps growth, the phosphorus strenghtens the roots of the plants and because of this there will be more flowers, leaves and fruits. Without potassium might occur problems in the absorbtion capacity of the plant.

For example if we want to prepare the plant for blooming, it is adviseable to use a fertilizer that has a high amount of phosphorus, which helps the appearance of the buds and with a lower amount of potassium, which is primarily responsible for the development of the plant tissues. We don’t need too much nitrogen either, because then a plant would be more focused on growth. Therefor, in this period we need a fertilizer with a NPK 10-30-20 percent. In the rest of the year we can use a fertilizer that has an equal amount of all three ingredients, for example NPK 20-20-20 or NPK 18-18-18. After hibernation the plants need a higher amount of nitrogen, it is advisable to use a fertilizer according to this, for example NPK 30-10-10. If we don’t’ want to complicate our life or we can not find the proper fertilizer, we can use one with equal amounts of all three ingredients.
Fertilizers are recommended to be used in the growt period, from February to August, especially for outside plants, after which the plant is preparing for hibernation. Otherwise the plant will start to have buds again, that are cold sensitive and in many cases it is not our goal.

Of course, besides fertilizers we have to pay attention to the proper soil and other circumstances as well. You can read about these here:
